RES has submitted a planning application for its 150MW Fairgreen battery energy storage proposal, located on a parcel of land at the centre of the Fairglen Interchange, between South Benfleet and Rayleigh, Essex.

Chosen for its proximity to Rayleigh substation, the Fairgreen BESS will support the variable generation of renewable energy technologies and manage the complex supply and deman needs of the 21st Century.

Increasing the installed capacity of BESS will be vital to deliver a reliable, resilient, decarbonised electricity system for the future.

John Hills, Development Project Manager at RES said:

“We’re pleased to be bringing forward the Fairgreen BESS proposal which not only supports the variable generation of renewable energy by storing power when generation exceeds demand but also provides vital grid-stablising services as electricity demand patterns evolve. We believe the site is in an optimum location in the centre of the Fairglen interchange, to enable efficient use of space with minimal visual and environmental disruption, whilst maintaining close distance to the substation.”
